Are human eyes without lenses more vulnerable to get detached retinas when getting hit hard in head?
I had congenital cataracts as a baby, and I want to play football. I had to get my lenses taken out of my eyes in surgeries. I want to know if I’m more vulnerable to go blind (or get detached retinas) while playing football or getting hit in my head. Is it okay if I play football?
I have to wear contacts or glasses because I can’t see well without.
It is probably OK for you to play football. The ones most prone to detached retinas are those who are very near sighted. The shape of the eyeball in these persons causes the retina to be stressed at its connections to the eyeball. If you do not need glasses you are probably OK. Call your optometrist and check with him he want charge you for asking on the phone.
