Simulated Combat
If you enjoy simulated combat, you will probably enjoy paintball. To play this game, there are two teams with an even amount of players. The primary goal of the game is to shoot the opposing team’s players which eliminates them from the game. Paintballs are small bead like balls which contain paint. The guns that shoot the paintballs operate off of CO2 or an air compressor.
Paintball originated in June of 1980 in the state of New Hampshire. The fact that players do not have to have physical contact with one another makes this game unique.
More than 12 million Americans take part in this sport regularly. Paintball is much safer than many other popular sports such as football, soccer, and basketball. Unlike many other sports, paintball can be played either inside or outside.
When paintball first started, the paintballs were used in marking trees from a large distance as well as marking cow stock. The pellets were first made of wax, which was later replaced with paint filled capsules. These capsules were much more durable than wax.
Originally, the game imitated the nature of hunting down animals by using these paintball guns rather than real guns.
So, what equipment do you need?
While there are many different versions of the game, there are also many different types of equipment which should be used. The following lists the basic equipment needed:
A facemask is used in protecting a player’s face from paintball pellets and the risk of falling on face.
A paintball marker is the same thing as a paintball gun. There are various styles and sizes to choose from when it comes to putting in your personal taste.
Paintballs mark the players which are shot.
For the basic beginner, be ready to spend at least $100 for the essential equipment. If you are more advanced, there are many tools available to improve accuracy level, rate of speed and comfort level. If you prefer not to spend so much money on equipment, you do have the option of renting equipment. You will then be able to figure out which sport is best for you. Most paintball fields are equipped with all equipment needed to play a game of paintball. The cost usually runs between $20 to about $80 per day of paintball.
There are many different paintball games available to play as well.
One of the more simple games to play it taking out opposing team mates one at a time. Paintball has been known to imitate hunting and has hugely evolved ever since it’s first been played. Many times, each game has a specific goal in mind. One example is trying to get the opposing team’s flag in order to win the game.
One other fun paintball game is “King of the Hill.” In this game, the object is to try and reach the opposing team’s base for a win. The team that stays on opposing teams base the longest, is the game champion.
These are just a few variations of paintball. With so many options of game play, paintball is sure to remain an American favorite.
