What colour would the solution look if
i) green light
ii) red light
was shone through it.
In white light: The solution is green in colour because the solute in solution has the ability to absorb the red and blue component of the white light. The gren component is not absorbed and passes through the solution – which is what you see.
1) Green Light: If you shine green light through the solution – no problem, the green light passes through and the solution continues to be green.
2) Red Light: We have already seen that the solution is able to absorb red light. Therefore the red light is absorbed and nothing emerges – the solution looks black – in theory – in practice it will be a very dark colour.
