I am a Canucks fan, but is Roberto Luongo as good as all the sports writers claim?
He certainly isn’t a ‘ Martin Brodeur ‘, is he?
He hasn’t shown it since joining Vancouver. Before that, in Florida, he consistently led all the major statistics for goaltenders. He’s a great goaltender, but I don’t think many people would put him above Miller right now. So he isn’t the “next Brodeur”, at least, not so far.
More than his performance as a Canuck, at the olympics he had arguably the best team ever assembled in front of him. But he clearly looked like the weaker goaltender compared to Miller. Despite the gold medal. He looked like he was fighting the puck at times, including the gold medal game.
I think he’s a great goaltender who could turn things around and rival Brodeur or Roy, but as of right now he isn’t.
