How can I make a large shoulder pad for a costume?
What I’m building is more like a wearable parade float; it’s mostly poultry wire and wood bracing to be worn. The overall outfit is to look like a space marine from the Warhammer 40K series, to their scale (about 8 ft. tall). My problem is the shoulder pads are very hard for me to make, inexpensively. I have access to poultry wire, cardboard, and paper mache. For scale, it needs to be about:
1.5′ x 2′ fourth of an oval
Any tips on how to create this weird shape would help me out of a pickle (the more technical the better).
Let me tell you that ‘ means feet, not inches. They need to be one and a half feet by two feet large. Also, search for Warhammer 40K space marine for a good picture.
If you need something that is thick and pliable, try using upholstery foam. It can be purchased up to 3 inches thick often. If you need it to be thicker you can spray glue 2 thicknesses together. It is light-weight and can be cut to many shapes easily.
