It’s time for Benton Panther Football!
Tonight at the Palace, the Panthers find themselves in unfamiliar territory when they host 6-A East rival Sheridan. The Panthers’ loss to Sylvan Hills last Friday, 40-35, snapped a 24-game conference win streak (Benton’s last conference loss came on week three of the 2022 season at LR Catholic). The perseverance of the Panthers will be put to the test tonight as they seek to bounce back in the win column.
The foe in the way of that bounce back win is the Sheridan Yellowjackets (2-3, 1-1). Sheridan owns wins over West Memphis and White Hall while suffering losses to HS Lakeside, Rogers and last week at home to Jonesboro. The Hurricane are the lone common opponent for the two teams – Benton defeated Jonesboro 55-24 two weeks ago while Sheridan fell 48-42 last Friday.
Tonight is the 38th all-time game in the Battle for Highway 35 with Benton owning a 28-9 advantage in the series, including wins in the last eight straight matchups between the two teams. Last year, the Panthers pounded Sheridan 72-25 in Grant County. The Yellowjackets last win over the Panthers came back in 2012, 17-14.
Sheridan always has a great following of support, so all Panther fans need to Pack the Palace tonight to aid and encourage the team to get back on a winning track. Tickets for tonight’s game are $5 and can be purchased at the stadium. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m.
For Panther fans unable to attend the game, you can watch all the action on the Benton Football Network YouTube channel at this link. An alternate Vimeo stream is also available at this link. The Everett Buick GMC Panther pregame show will begin at 6:30 p.m. This week’s Hamilton Family Dentistry halftime guest will be Donnie Burks, Executive Director of the Benton Athletic Memorial Museum. The Museum will celebrate its tricennial (30 years) on Sunday afternoon and Donnie will share all the details about what promises to be a fun afternoon celebrating Benton Panther history.
Panther football on the Benton Football Network is presented by Everett Buick GMC. Also sponsoring Panther broadcasts are Lost Pizza, Legends MVP, Hamilton Family Dentistry, Merchants & Farmers Bank, Jones Heating & Air, Alcoa Community Federal Credit Union, Midtown Mechanical, Neo Home Loans, Black, Corley, Owens & Hughes, Solux Aesthetics, the City of Benton, Elliott Electrical, Truman Ball Realtors, Layne’s Chicken Fingers, Allied Glass, First Security Bank, Riverside Grocery & Catering, ACDI, True Gentlemen & Boutique, Congo Fireplace & Patio, Edward Jones agent Kaitlin King, and Westside Wellness.
